The beneficiaries of the Amma two-wheeler scheme, under which the State government would provide scooters to working women at a subsidised rate, will be required to provide their Aadhaar details for availing themselves of the scheme.
The requirement of Aadhaar details was notified by the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women Limited (TNCDW) in the gazette on January 24.
In the notification, the corporation’s managing director, Praveen P. Nair, said that the use of the Aadhaar details would help in ensuring accuracy and in ascertaining the identity of the beneficiaries at the grass-roots level.
As per the notification, beneficiaries in possession of the Aadhaar card should register their Aadhaar number as part of their enrolment in the Amma two-wheeler scheme, which will be launched on February 24.
The beneficiaries who are yet to apply for an Aadhaar card should make an application for the same at any Aadhaar enrolment centre / permanent enrolment centre. Those who have enrolled for Aadhaar but are yet to receive the card, should register their 28-digit Aadhaar enrolment ID, which is printed on the enrolment slip.
The Department of Rural Development, through TNCDW, will inorganically seed the Aadhaar number for its beneficiaries.
TNCDW officials said that the Aadhaar card was one of the documents required to be furnished by the applicants. Section 57 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016, permitted the use of the Aadhaar number for establishing the identity of an individual, and this was a statutory notification, they noted.
The officials said the documents required varied from person to person. For instance, the differently-abled would have to produce their disability certificate, and beneficiaries from the SC/ST communities should provide their community certificate. “As people are highly mobile, there are chances of some applying again for a two-wheeler from a different district in the future. The seeding of Aadhaar will prevent people from benefitting twice from the scheme,” an official said.
